About Soukaina Fahsi

My Story

I am Soukaïna Fahsi, a young Moroccan singer born in El Jadida, a city on the Moroccan Atlantic coast at the crossroads of Arab, African, Judeo-Andalusian, and Portuguese cultures. Immersed in a multicultural artistic atmosphere, I draw my influences from various musical genres such as jazz, blues, flamenco, fado, African rhythms, as well as the classics of the Arabic repertoire like Malhoun, Malouf, and Gharnati.

Born in 1993, I have been singing since childhood. As a self-taught artist, I started playing music and singing at the youth center in El Jadida before gradually making a name for myself by performing on stages and at festivals, such as the International Volubilis Festival in Meknes, the Sun Festival in Marrakech, and the Jawhara Talent Festival in El Jadida.

From 2011 to 2016, I was the lead vocalist in several local music groups. My international career began in 2014 with a tour in Portugal and Cape Verde as part of the international festival “Sète est Sète l’as.” This experience allowed me to discover new repertoires and immerse myself in new musical genres, like Lisbon’s fado, as well as Batuku and Funana from Cape Verde.

In 2016, I had the opportunity to perform with the jazz group Agharta, based in Prague, on the prestigious stage of the Chellah Jazz Festival. That same year, I also explored a new artistic side by engaging in a theatrical experience with Moroccan actress Latifa Ahrare.

Through my stage experiences and encounters with artists from all walks of life, I have developed an eclectic and colorful repertoire. From the Timitar Festival in Agadir, where I sang in front of 500,000 people, to the Carthage Musical Days, and Visa for Music, where I had the honor of winning the “TV5 MONDE” jury prize for the opening night, I continue to confidently affirm my status as an international talent. Slowly but surely, I am finding my place, creating a unique universe on every stage, filled with emotions, Maqamat, jazz, pop, and bossa nova… And the magic happens.

Personal Life

I was born in 1993 in El Jadida, a city rich in cultural diversity on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. My passion for music started very early, influenced by my father, who introduced me to music just a week after I was born. Growing up, I was lucky to be part of a family that deeply values art and education. My parents recognized the importance of culture in personal development and enrolled me in a local youth center, where I had my first experience singing in public. This early exposure was crucial in shaping my artistic journey and gave me the confidence to explore my musical talents further.

While I have pursued my love for music wholeheartedly, I also dedicated myself to my academic career. I moved to Marrakech to complete a Master’s degree, then returned to El Jadida to work on a PhD in geology. For me, being an artist also means being well-educated and knowledgeable. This belief is something I’ve carried throughout my life, balancing my studies with my musical career. I often draw inspiration from my studies in geology, seeing it as a unique way of communicating with nature, which often reflects in my compositions.

I encourage young artists to focus on their education, as it provides a stable foundation and allows them to pursue art out of genuine passion rather than necessity. For me, education and music go hand in hand, each enriching the other.

Outside of my musical career, I enjoy exploring different art forms and am deeply committed to personal growth and learning. I’m incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of my family, who have always believed in my potential and encouraged me to follow my dreams. Their faith in me has been a constant source of strength and inspiration throughout my journey.
